Hooks avoid sweep with 2-1 victory
Naturals could not answer sixth inning run by Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi, TX- A sixth inning run was the difference, as the Naturals could not complete the sweep when Corpus Christi held on for a 2-1 victory Tuesday night.

Corpus Christi (7-5), scored the game's first run in the bottom half of the first inning. J.B. Shuck led off the inning with a base hit to center field. A single by German Duran put two men on base with no one out. After Jonathan Gaston struck out, Koby Clemens singled to left field, which scored Shuck, and gave the Hooks the early lead.

The Naturals (7-5), came back and tied the game up in the top of the third. Chris McConnell who reached bas on a walk was then able to steal second. After Johnny Giavotella walked, a balk by Hooks pitcher Douglas Arguello advanced the runners to second and third. Another mistake by Arguello this time in a the form of a wild pitch brought McConnell home and tied the game up at 1-1.

The game remained tied until the Hooks plated a run in the bottom of the sixth. David Cook was walked to lead off the inning, and James VanOstrand then singled to center, which put two men on base. An error on a pick off attempt moved Cook to third base before Santangelo walked which loaded the bases. A sacrifice fly by Wladimir Sutil brought home Cook, and gave the Hooks the lead back. The Hooks were able to keep the Naturals at bay, and held on for the 2-1 victory.

After Friday's double-header the Naturals turned to their bullpen to close out the road trip. Louis Coleman got the start, and went two and two thirds innings. Coleman gave up one earned run on three hits. Rowdy Hardy took over and worked the next two and a third. Hardy struck out two, and did not give up a run. Brandon Sisk (1-1) worked the next two innings, but suffered the loss. Sisk walked two, struck out two, and gave up what ended up as the winning run in the bottom of the sixth.

Jared Wells (1-0) picked up the win for the Hooks. Wells worked three and a third innings, and did not give up a run. Henry Villar closed out the game, and picked up the save for Corpus Christi. Douglas Arguello started the game, and went five innings in a no decision. Arguello gave up one earned run, struck out three, and walked four.

The first road trip for the Naturals is now over as they will head back to Arvest Ballpark. The Naturals will begin a home series with in state rival Arkansas beginning Thursday. Game time for Thursday is set for 7:00 p.m.
