SPRINGDALE, AR - The Kansas City Royals announced two transactions on Saturday afternoon affecting the Naturals roster. The related details are as follows:

Outfielder/DH Shane Costa has been placed on the seven-day disabled list with a heel injury. Costa is a 28-year old resident of Huntington Beach, CA who is recovering from a lower leg injury sustained in his first game of the 2009 season. He made his Naturals debut Friday night and was 0-for-3. The Royals' second round pick in the 2003 draft out of Cal State Fullerton, Costa has logged 154 games worth of big league time with Kansas City, batting .254 with five homers and 54 RBI.

The left-handed hitting Costa, who plays primarily in right, is a career .311 hitter at the minor league level in 430 games with 43 homers and 221 RBI. Costa has spent 13 games rehabbing this season between the rookie-level Surprise Royals and Advanced Class-A Wilmington, batting .311 with two homers and eight RBI. He hasn't seen action at the Double-A level since the 2006 season. Costa played in 77 games between 2005 and 2006 for the Wichita Wranglers, batting a combined .284 with eight homers, 18 doubles, and 44 RBI.

In a corresponding move, right-handed reliever Chris Chavez (quad) has been activated from the disabled list. Signed as a non-drafted free agent in June 2006, the 25-year old resident of Kingman, AZ has a 2-0 record and a 6.15 ERA in 18 relief appearances with the Naturals this season.

The Naturals' roster remains at the Texas League limit of 24 active players.
