sspd police sealOn January 23rd, 2018, information was presented to the Siloam Springs Police Department of a possible “rumor” that there was going to be a shooting at the Siloam Springs Middle School. Patrol Officers, School Resource Officers, Detectives and members of the Siloam Springs Police Department Command Staff, in concert with officials of the Siloam Springs School District began looking into the “rumor.” During the course of the investigation interviews were conducted, and a suspect was developed.

As the investigation continued it became evident to the Siloam Springs Police Department and officials with the Siloam Springs Schools that no threat to the students or staff was present. However, remaining vigilant and with an abundance of caution and concern for the safety of all, proactive steps were taken by the Siloam Springs Police Department as well as Siloam Springs Schools to ensure students safety. These steps included heightened security, increased officer presence and a continued investigation.

The suspect, a thirteen (13) year old male student of Siloam Springs Schools was subsequently interviewed by Detectives with the Siloam Springs Police Department. The suspect admitted to fabricating a story that he had heard a rumor of a possible shooting at the Siloam Springs Middle School; and that there was no actual rumor, nor was a shooting ever contemplated. Juvenile Services was contacted, and the suspect was charged with Communicating a False Alarm.

No further information is being released at this time due to the fact the offender is a juvenile and the investigation is ongoing.
