Elizabeth Smart to speak Oct. 18 in Siloam Springs area

Siloam Springs Regional Hospital’s Healthy Woman program and Community Physicians Group will present an evening with Elizabeth Smart during Healthy Woman’s 2nd Anniversary Event starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18 in Cherokee Casino’s Qualla Ballroom at West Siloam Springs, Okla.

As keynote speaker, Smart has a powerful story to tell. Her abduction was one of the most followed child abduction cases of our time. She was taken on June 5, 2002, and her captors controlled her by threatening to kill her and her family if she tried to escape. Fortunately, after nine months, the police safely returned Smart back to her family.

During her presentation, Smart tells her story with a focus on overcoming extreme adversity. The silver lining of her experience is she lived to tell the tale to future generations, and she has become an advocate for change related to child abduction, recovery programs and federal legislation.

This special evening with Elizabeth Smart will kick off with a women’s expo followed by a dinner for those who purchase general admission tickets.

A special VIP reception with Elizabeth Smart will follow the expo for those who purchase a VIP ticket, dinner will follow. VIP tickets are limited to 40.

At 7 p.m. Smart will speak to attendees about “Overcoming Adversity.” At the conclusion of her presentation, Smart will introduce the Resisting Aggression Defensively (radKIDS) program, an educational nonprofit founded by a former police officer which The Elizabeth Smart Foundation has partnered with. This program empowers children to avoid and escape assault, abduction or harm.

Tickets for this event are $25 for general admission and $40 for VIP admission (includes the VIP reception with Smart). Seating is limited.
