"The Harvest," a pastel painting by Charles Peer, art instructor at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, has been juried into the Arkansas Pastel Society’s 5th National charles peerCharles PeerExhibition, “Reflections in Pastel." The exhibit opens on November 8 at the Butler Center in Little Rock.

More than $5,000.00 in cash and prizes will be presented during the opening reception, from 5:00 till 8:00 p.m. on November 8, at the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies, 401 President Clinton Avenue in Little Rock. The public is invited to this free event, presented by the Arkansas Pastel Society, an arts group beginning its tenth year of operation in 2014.

Artists from across the country submitted nearly one hundred works of fine art in soft or oil pastel. Fifty-six were chosen for the exhibition by juror Richard McKinley, an internationally known pastel artist and instructor. McKinley will also judge the show and award the prizes. During his visit to Arkansas, McKinley will also conduct a five-day workshop on landscape pastels to be held in Hot Springs Village November 4-8..

The Arkansas Pastel Society is a regional art organization founded in February of 2004 to promote the use of pastels as an art medium. It has over 60 members from the state and region and is open to any interested persons nationwide. The group holds regular meetings at St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock. In addition to this biennial national exhibition, workshops, member-only shows, paint-outs, and programs with demonstrations are presented. Further information is available on the website

The exhibit will be on view from from November 8, 2013, though February 22, 2014, Mondays through Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., The show is sponsored by Arvest Bank, Art Outfitters. Arkansas League of Artists, Tony Martin Associates, Stanley Jewelers, Retina Associates, P.A., Terry Ludwig Pastels and Dakota Art Pastels.
