A WINTER STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT...
FOR THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES... * IN OKLAHOMA... ADAIR AND DELAWARE.
 
IN ARKANSAS... WASHINGTON... MADISON... BENTON AND CARROLL.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER... * A VERY COLD ARCTIC AIRMASS IS NOW IN PLACE ACROSS NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA AND NORTHWEST ARKANSAS. MEANWHILE... A POTENT AND FAST MOVING SHORTWAVE TROUGH WILL MOVE ACROSS THE REGION LATER TODAY.
 
PRECIPITATION WILL BEGIN TO DEVELOP BY MIDDAY AND WILL CONTINUE OFF AND ON THRU THE DAY. AFTER A BRIEF PERIOD OF FREEZING RAIN THIS MORNING... A CHANGE OVER TO SLEET IS EXPECTED AS THE COLD AIR GETS DEEPER. A SECONDARY BATCH OF PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED WITH THE MAIN UPPER WAVE LATE TODAY AND TONIGHT ACROSS NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA AND NORTHWEST ARKANSAS. BY THIS TIME... THE COLD AIR WILL BE DEEP ENOUGH TO SUPPORT SNOW.

* 1 TO 3 INCHES OF SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATION IS EXPECTED. A TENTH OF AN INCH OR LESS OF ICE ACCUMULATION IS EXPECTED IN MOST AREAS... WITH LOCALLY HEAVIER AMOUNTS UP TO A QUARTER INCH IN THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF NORTHWEST ARKANSAS.
 
* WIND CHILLS WILL DROP DOWN INTO THE 5 BELOW TO 15 BELOW RANGE TONIGHT.
IMPACTS... * TRAVEL WILL BECOME VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE... ESPECIALLY ON NON TREATED AND SECONDARY ROADS. POWER OUTAGES ARE POSSIBLE IN SOME AREAS THAT GET THE HEAVIER ICING.
