Big Weekend for Cross Country
Will Scarbrough Breaks 17! And the JH Girls Win the Chile Pepper!
The Chile Pepper Festival is a premier cross country event drawing team from all over the south. Top teams from Arkansas, Texas, Alabama, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Mississippi competed on Saturday.
Will Scarbrough broke the 17 minute mark with a finish of 16:53 at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville on Saturday, placing him fifth overall in the High School boys open event. Will was awarded a top 15 award and a new watch. Corbin Greening also ran a personal best at 18:05 coming in second for the team. Also, running were Chris Thurstenson (18:56), Jacob Rodgers (19:35), Christian Smith (19:42), Blake Berrios (19:51), Luis Bernal (20:05), Joel Morgan (20:10), Bryan Marroquin (20:35), Ian Austin (22:24), Matt Couey (22:57), and David Cisneros (23:53). The men's team won the Greenwood Invitational last weekend.
The High School girls finished well running season best times and finishing 37th out of 49 teams. Grayson Tharp led the ladies with a time of 21:18. Colleen Kretzer broke 22 minutes for the first time this season running 21:43. Morgan Jackson finished in 22:48, McKenzie Svebek ran a 23:03, Conner Bedor had a 23:17, and Emily Lowry ran a 23:43. Our girls placed second by one point last week in Greenwood.
The junior high boys team finished 6th out of 41 teams in the 5K race. Freshman Christian Capehart received top 15 honors coming in 4th place overall in a time of 17:34. Other freshman competing were Matt Odom (18:36), Tyler Low (18:54), Eduardo Frias (19:13), Roman Lambert (19:38), Zach Morgan (20:39), Porter Lasater (21:12)
The junior high girls were the last to compete. Nothing like saving the best for last. These girls haven't lost a race all season. Saturday was no exception, bringing home the first ever Chile Pepper title. Our girls finished first out of 32 teams. Adrienne McGooden continued to lead the team with a ninth overall finish in 21:22 winning a top 15 plaque. Matti Fuller came in second for the team at 22:05. Also running were freshmen Taylor Gay (22:15), Rebekah Hill (23:07), Priscilla Chavez (26:06), and Emily Wilt (26:37).
