Rain plays spoiler in Teaford's gem
Naturals and Cards rained out at Arvest Ballpark

SPRINGDALE, AR- Naturals lefty Everett Teaford and Cardinals' right-hander David Kopp were locked in a pitcher's duel in the top of the fourth inning when lightning came close to the ballpark. The rain wasn't far behind and the game was cancelled just before 8:30.

Teaford, making a spot start, was perfect through 3 2/3 innings and was facing Springfield's Matt Carpenter when a lightning bolt appeared to strike a pasture just north of the stadium. The umpires pulled the players and coaches off the field and then after a few minutes, the tarp was rolled onto the field just before the rain started.

Springfield starter David Kopp had a gem of his own working. He had allowed one hit, a single by Johnny Giavotella, and issued a third inning walk to Jamie Romak but had faced the minimum through three innings. It was all for naught, however, as because the game fell beneath the required five inning mark to make it an official game, the statistics from the evening's ballgame will not be tallied.

Because it is Springfield's final regular season visit of the 2010 season to Arvest Ballpark, the game will have to be rescheduled as part of a doubleheader which will be played in Springfield sometime during the Naturals' upcoming four-game series at Hammons Field. The date and start time for that game will be determined by the Springfield Cardinals front office.

Per the Naturals' rain check policies, all tickets from Monday night's game at Arvest Ballpark may be exchanged for a ticket of similar value to any remaining Naturals' game during the 2010 season, subject to availability. The Naturals head out on the road Tuesday to begin a seven-day road trip that begins with a three-game midweek series at ONEOK Field against the Tulsa Drillers. Left-hander Edgar Osuna (6-2, 2.66) takes the hill for the Naturals opposite Tulsa lefty Brandon Durden (4-7, 4.73). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 P.M. and you can catch all the action on ESPN 92.1 The Ticket.

The Northwest Arkansas Naturals are the Double-A Texas League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals and play at state-of-the-art Arvest Ballpark, located in Springdale. The Naturals have a toll-free ticket hotline (1-877-444-2637) for fans to purchase Naturals tickets. Our website, nwanaturals.com offers fans the opportunity to purchase tickets online and avoid lines at the ticket windows by printing their tickets at home or at the office.
