A Siloam Springs sophomore walked away with first place in a national bowling tournament during Thanksgiving weekend.
Cody Thomas earned the honors in the high school division (184 average and below) at the Fifth Annual Chris Barnes Thanksgiving Youth Classic Bowling Tournament held Nov. 27 to 29, in Plano, Texas at Plano Super Bowl.
Sponsored by Columbia 300, the three-day event USBC certified sport certified tournament, featured a Scorpion pattern for tournament lane conditions.
Thomas qualified for the tournament after three initial rounds on Friday and Saturday morning. At the end of qualifying, he held position three, nine, and 14 out of 86 high school bowlers from throughout the United States. He was one of 11 bowlers selected for the semi-finals, advancing to second place. The top eight bowlers competed in the round robin finals on Sunday. Thomas entered into the final game ahead of the second place bowler by 158 pins. He concluded the tournament 208 pins ahead of the field.
PBA bowler Chris Barnes presented Thomas with a $1,000 scholarship and a four-foot trophy.
Thomas is the son of James and Melissa Thomas of Siloam Springs.
