In their traditional Toilet Paper home opener, the JBU men’s basketball team crushed the Saints of Hillsdale Freewill Baptist (Okla.) 101-58.

Six JBU players finished in double-digits led by senior Adrian Miller with 21 who shot 10 for 10. Freshman Tucker Trumbo started his college career second on the board with a total of 15 points.

Junior Coleson Rakestraw followed closely with 14 total points. Junior Samuel Johnson tossed up 12 and junior Abel Galliguez totaled 11 points. Senior Andy Garcia followed suit with 10 total points.

After Miller’s attempt at an alley-oop, Garcia rebounded and laid one up for the first official basket at home to send the toilet paper flying at the 18:45 mark. JBU’s 12-0 early run set the pace for the rest of the game.

Half way through the first half, HFB was able to prevent JBU from increasing their 17 point lead by matching basket per basket. Finally, a field goal made by Garcia at the 8:14 mark put JBU back on track. Going into halftime, JBU increased their lead to 26 points with a score of 54-28.

In the second half, JBU quickly increased their lead to 34 points with a field goal by Miller and two three-pointers by Abel Galliguez and Rakestraw sparking a 7-0 run. The largest run in the second half was a 9-0 that began with a field goal by Johnson. During the run, freshman Joseph Pelegreen made a three pointer, and senior Thomas Galliguez sank two free throws due to a foul made by HFB’s Antoine Warren. This run led to their highest lead of the game of 46 points with another basket by Johnson, who also scored the last two points surpassing the 100 point mark.

JBU clinched a 43 point lead with the final score of 101-58.

For the game, JBU shot 60% (38-63) from the floor including 63% (14-22) from three point land.  Meanwhile, HFB struggled only hitting 41% (20-49) of their attempts from the field and only 22% (5-23) beyond the arch. JBU dominated the glass, winning the rebounding battle 44-19.  Junior EJ McWoods had seven assists, contributing to JBU advantage of 25-6 total assists.

The Golden Eagles are back in action at home against the Ambassadors of Ozark Christian College (Mo.) on Saturday, November 5. Tipoff is at 5 p.m.
