John Brown University is hosting the fifth annual Shelter Design Competition, sponsored by Samaritan's Purse. Teams from colleges across the region will build their shelter designs at JBU for testing. Shelters will be evaluated for their inhabitability, ease of assembly, heat retention, and durability through both an earthquake simulation and a hurricane simulation.

What: Disaster Shelter Design Competition

When: April 21 - 23

Where: Balzer Technology Center High Bay and JBU Quad
(Parking available in the Berry Performing Arts Center and Simmons Great Hall lots)

Why: Samaritan's Purse International Relief evaluates the shelter designs for possible implementation in disaster relief efforts. Collegiate teams - from Dordt College (Iowa), Pittsburg State University (Kansas), Judson University (Illinois), Murray State University (Kentucky), University of Arkansas at Little Rock (Arkansas) and John Brown University - have designed shelters specifically for response to the refugee crisis in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
