A one-mile fun run and a 5-K run will kick off the activities with registrations beginning at 7 a.m. and the runs at 8 a.m. Registration will be on the south end of the park in the southeast pavilion. McKee Employee Recreation Association will host the events.

"I'm really happy to add this to our already long list of activities for Freedom Fest. We try to make sure there are lots of activities for everyone and this just adds another option," Bev Saunders, Gentry Chamber of Commerce director, said.

Contacts for participating in the run are Adam Carter at 479-736-2601 Ext. 3301, adam_carter@mckee.com or Rexcy Delara at 479-736-2601 Ext. 3224, rexcy_delara@mckee.com. Participants are asked to call or email to enter.

Other activities' contacts are:

Adult Coed Softball Tournament - Jodye Pool at 479-790-8988.

Car Show – Tammie Runyan – 479-238-4979.

  • Tired Iron of the Ozarks will have antique equipment on display at the south end of the park. This group will also be giving free tractor wagon rides all day.
  • Throughout the day, there will be food and drinks vendors, arts and craft booths, rock wall climbing, inflatables for the kiddos to play on, a dunking booth and more. The wrestling exhibition will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the south end of the field.
  • At 6:30 p.m., Kaylin Cripps and Band will take the main stage followed by Earl's Garage at 8:15 p.m.
  • At dusk, the Gentry Fire Department will ignite the largest fireworks display in Gentry ever.

Gentry has celebrated July 4th for more than 100 years. The 2012 events are co-sponsored by the Gentry Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Gentry, the city of Gentry and the Gentry United Way.
